Powidoki (in polish: afterimage)
1: an image that continues to appear after the exposure to the original image has ceased
2: a lasting memory
Powidoki is a self-portrait of architectural space. Captured using 29 pinhole cameras simultaneously, the images offer a multi-angled view that allows one to experience it from a very specific and so far unknown angle. With its slow, contemplative exposure, it seeks to capture not just the physical form but also the genius loci—the spirit and essence—of the place, revealing its deeper architectural character and potential.
29 cameras • 2,5 hour exposure
Designed and built by the author, the 29 pinhole cameras are positioned along the perimeter of the building's interior, each camera standing with its back to the walls, facing inward. In this way, the cameras become an extension of the architecture itself, as if they lend their eyes to the walls, allowing them to look at each other. As spectators, we are confronted with a new type of gaze— is this how the space sees itself? The collision of different angles and the collection of multiple viewpoints are composed into an „inverted panorama”.
