Plissé
Plissé - a collection of porcelain vases born from material research inspired by Gottfried Semper’s belief that architecture has its origins in weaving.
These vases are crafted by meticulously hand-weaving cotton cloth, then immersing it in liquid porcelain and firing it at 1260°C with a cardboard base. As the intense heat burns away the cloth and paper, the porcelain solidifies and captures the intricate textures and forms of the original fabric in striking detail.
Plissé is just one outcome of this broader investigation into the relationship between textility and architecture, with the technique itself recognized by the Techtextil New Building prize in Frankfurt and featured at the xtant Heritage Textiles exhibition in Palma de Mallorca.
