photogenic interior
"In societies where modern conditions of production prevail, all of life presents itself as an immense accumulation of spectacles. Everything that was directly lived has moved away into representation". (Debord, 1992)
Photogenic Interior is an essay and visual exploration of the allure of photogenic spaces, admiration, and the duplicate world. In an ocular-centric culture, visual appeal takes precedence. Images shape how we navigate, influence our tastes, and form our opinions. Accustomed to viewing photographs, we now perceive the world as a series of potential images, with our gaze shifting from reality to imagination. Much like the 19th-century watercolours of domestic spaces that embodied "ruminations and memories, visions and fancies," today’s interior portraits, captured by star photographers, reflect the desires and fantasies of their owners.
